The Department of Statistics, founded in 2012 G.C, is one of eight departments within the College of Natural and Computational Sciences. Initially, it operated with five Lecturers and over forty students. In addition to its core curriculum, the department also offers interdisciplinary courses both within its College and beyond. Since 2015 G.C the department has contributed to the country’s development by graduating skilled statisticians.

The department has its own statistical computer lab which is equipped with computers and software specifically designed for statistical analysis and data processing. These labs serve educational and research purposes, facilitating hands-on learning and practical application of statistical concepts.
Statistical computer labs often provide access to a variety of statistical software packages essential for data analysis. Commonly available software that are given by the department includes SPSS, R, SAS, Minitab, and Eviews. Additional tools for technical writing, such as Microsoft Office and LaTeX, are also typically available for students and researchers.
