About The College

Woldia University was established in 2011 as part of Ethiopia’s third generation of universities, initially consisting of four faculties, including the Faculty of Natural and Computational Sciences. Formal lectures began in November 2011, offering a three year B.Sc. degree program across four departments: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. By the 2013 academic year, the faculty transitioned to a four-year B.Sc. degree program for each department. As of early 2024, it has evolved into the College of Natural and Computational Sciences (የተፈጥሮና ቀመር ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ ). Over the past 12 years, the college has experienced significant growth and now encompasses eight departments that offer undergraduate degrees in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Sport Science, and Statistics. It also provides postgraduate degrees in specialized areas such as Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Applied Microbiology, Botanical Science, Ecology and Systematic Zoology, Mathematical Modeling, Algebra, Quantum Field Theory, Condensed Matter Physics, Material Science, and Sport Management. The college is led by a Dean and includes coordinating offices focused on Educational Quality, Research and Community Service, and Assistant Registrar. Its staff comprises over 25 assistant professors, 110 lecturers, and 19 technical assistants, all dedicated to teaching, research, and community service.
